After seven happy years at Battersea Evolution, the British Bodyshop Awards (BBA) had simply outgrown the venue. The event has become not only the biggest bodyshop awards ceremony in the UK, but also the biggest in the world, so we took the decision to move the 2019 BBA to the InterContinental London - The 02.
It provided a superb setting, able to comfortably seat our 962 guests for dinner (up from 874 guests in 2018), with magnificent views overlooking The Thames for the drinks reception and the casino plus the added bonus of a late-night bar open until 4am.
We were delighted to bring together so many people to celebrate the good and the great in the body repair industry. The British Bodyshop Awards are designed to allow insurers, vehicle manufacturers and accident management companies to publicly recognise, on a national stage, the great work done for them by the bodyshops within their approved networks.
The 18 presenting companies set the criteria for their 34 awards. They choose their 134 finalists and their winners - ABP Club has no involvement in the selection or judging process. Congratulations to all finalists and winners, you are a credit to the bodyshops you work in and the industry.
Our Awards host for the third year in a row was the irrepressible Gyles Brandreth. A popular new addition for 2019 were the 10 magicians we had performing for guests at the Drinks Reception and at the tables during dinner.
After the awards, the party began with a Victorian fairground sponsored by Nationwide; the fun Casino sponsored by OEC (formerly Bluegrasscoms); the fun photo booth; the late-night bar sponsored by Optima from LKQ; the bacon roll cart sponsored by AW Repair Group.
Our chosen charities were AutoRaise, Ben and Rainbow Trust with a magnificent £13,522 being raised for them through the £10 Envelope Raffle and the Silent Auction.
One constant at all eight BBAs since they started in 2012 has been PPG - our wonderful Headline Partner. They are brilliant to work with, encouraging and helping us, and together we have seen BBA grow to become such an amazing world record success. Thank you PPG.
I'd also like to thank our 10 fantastic Diamond Partners:
